"Science, Technology and Innovation: A Key Driver for Economic Growth"
Prof. Dr. Nüket Yetiş - TÜBİTAK

Dr. Yetiş received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering and MBA in Operations Management degrees from Boğaziçi University, and her PhD in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.
Dr. Yetiş has been president of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) since January 2004. During her tenure, she has leaded a restructuring initiative that resulted multi-tens fold increase in both the financial support and the services provided by TÜBİTAK to Turkish Research Area from 2003 to 2009. As a result all RTI input and output indicators of Turkey raised exponentially. Dr. Yetiş worked as the Director of the TÜBİTAK TÜSSİDE (Turkish Institute for Industrial Management) where she led organizational quality improvement and restructuring projects for more than 75 organizations. She is a former Dean and founding member of the Engineering Faculty at Marmara University (MUFE) in Istanbul Turkey, where she established Master and Doctoral Programs in Engineering Management and lead Continuous Quality Improvement activities. MUFE was the first applicant and finalist for the European Quality Award in higher education in 2000. She is a member of the European Research Area Board, the European Science Foundation Governing Council and EUROHORCS's steering committee and General Council. Dr. Yetiş is married with two daughters.

Dr. Jane Prey - Microsoft Research

Dr. Prey received her BS degree from the University of Illinois Urbana in biology and her PhD from the University of Virginia in Instructional Technology. She was a faculty member in the Computer Science Department at the University of Virginia for 11 years before joining Microsoft Research in January, 2004 where she lead the Tablet Technologies in Higher Education initiative. Jane is currently responsible for the development and implementation of the Gender Diversity and Pipeline Strategy for Microsoft Research.  Dr. Prey also spent two years as the Computer Science Program Manager at the National Science Foundation in the Division of Undergraduate Education. She is a member of the IEEE CS Educational Activities Board, the ACM Education Board, and the CRA Board as well as a number of university advisory boards. Jane and her husband of 35+years and have 3 children. She loves to travel and read cookbooks and murder mysteries.

Prof. Dr. Ali Ekrem Özkul - The Council of Higher Education


Ali Ekrem OZKUL is a professor at the Anadolu University of Eskisehir Turkey. Currently he is serving as executive board member at the Higher Education Council of Turkey (which is the supreme governing body of higher education in the country).

Dr. Ozkul has BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering and Ph.D. in the field of Quantitative Business Analysis. Besides teaching at the Industrial Engineering Department of Anadolu University he served as Dean of Open Education Faculty and Vice Rector of the same university.

Dr. Ozkul's academic fields of interest are

•  Integration of Education and Technology
•  Production and Operations Management
•  Decision Support Systems

His current research interests lie in the design and implementation of educational models that integrate of instruction with the information and communication technologies
