PRE-CONFERENCE ISTANBUL TOUR
3 DAYS

First day: 22 June 2010

Arrive at your Hotel, which we will inform you about. Relax and enjoy your stay until the following day when you will be picked up for your tour. Dinner will be served at your hotel.

Second day: 23 June 2010

After breakfast, we will first go to the old city where we will visit the Hippodrome, where once upon a time 100.000 spectators watched chariot races and gladiator fights which were performed in the building's monumental courtyard. We will then visit the Blue Mosque which is famous for its delicate blue ceramic tiles and is one of the master pieces of the Ottoman Empire. Right after, we will visit Saint Sophia which was converted to a mosque and then to a museum. It will take your breath away with the sheer architectural size of its interior and its magnificent dome. Next, we will visit the spectacular Topkapi Palace which is built on one of the seven hills of Istanbul. These huge complexes command views of the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. Topkapi Palace was the seat of government for the Ottoman Empire for many centuries (1453-1852). Here we will see the extravagant Treasury, priceless Chinese Porcelain and the Imperial Terrace with the best panoramic view of the city. Lunch will be served at Konyali Restaurant in the Topkapi Palace Museum. When we finish our program, we will also visit the Grand Bazaar. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Third day: 24 June 2010

After breakfast, we begin by boarding a boat for a relaxing cruise along the shores of the legendary Bosphorus – the natural gateway that divides Asia and Europe. As you sit back and enjoy Turkish coffee or well-brewed tea from traditional small cups, numerous summer palaces and palatial homes will pass by on either side. When we finish our field trip, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Ankara.

POST-CONFERENCE CAPPADOCIA TOUR
2 DAYS

First day: 01 July 2010

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel and then we will depart on the road to Capadocia via the picturesque Salt Lake which is the second biggest lake in Turkey, where a significant amount of salt is produced. Lunch will be served enroute. When arrive, we will directly head to the citadel of Uchisar to see the enchanting lunar landscape of the region: the "moon-like" topography of Capadocia. We will start with the natural landscape, where the wind and weather have eroded the soft volcanic rock leaving pillars, cones and "Fairy Chimneys" which are phenomemenal, especially when seen for the first time. We will then visit Hunter's Valley, which is the most beautiful panorama in the entire region. When we finish our program for the day we will return to the hotel for dinner and a rest.

Second day: 02 July 2010

After breakfast, we will depart from the Hotel to tour an underground city, which 1400 years ago people carved underground to create huge complexes up to 50 meters deep. 30.000 people lived in the underground cities for two years to hide and protect themselves from invaders. We will then continue to the entirely unique landscape of Goreme with is rock chapels hollowed out by early Christians, and used as secret dwellings; as they were being sought first by Roman and later by Byzantine persecutors. The chapels are decorated with vivid frescoes which have withstood the corrosive effects of the time, and date from the 6th to the 10th century. It is an unforgettable experience. After lunch, we will also visit the pottery-making village, Avanos. In the late afternoon about 6pm we will return back to Ankara to leave you at your hotel, which will end our service.

After breakfast we will head directly to a wonder of the world, Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) where thermal water flows from natural pools in white terraces. Relax and enjoy your stay until the next day when you will be picked up for your tour. Dinner will be served in your hotel.

 

 

Third day: 03 July 2010

After breakfast we will head to visit the cascading cliffs of the region, which are unique in the world. Then we will visit the ancient city of Hieropolis, which was named after Hiera, wife of the founder of Pergamon. Highlights include the Roman Baths, the temple of Apollo and the Nymphaeum, which is located by the Acropolis where St Philip was buried on Matrylion. The Necropolis is one of the biggest in the world with thousands of Sarcophagi dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman era. You will then have free time to swim in the public swimming pool, which is really a once in a lifetime experience. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Fourty day: 04 Julty 2010

After breakfast we will depart to explore one of the greatest archaeological sites, Epheses, as well as the Seven Churches in the Book of Revelation. Ephesus is an ancient city where St. Paul preached. Relax and enjoy your stay until the following day when you will be picked up for your tour. Dinner will be served at your hotel.

Fifth day: 05 July 2010

After breakfast, we will head across the fertile the Meandrous valley to the ruins of glorious Ephesus, the capital of Roman Asia Minor. We will see the extensive ruins, some of which are 2000 years old. The highlights are marble streets, the huge theatre, the Library of Celsius, the gymnasium and the Temple of Hadrian. In the afternoon, after lunch, we will visit the Basilica of St. John - where he completed his gospel and where he was buried after he died. We will also visit the Virgin Mary's stone cottage. This is the end of the tour.

DAILY TOURS - BEYPAZARI

29 June 2010
Departure from Bilkent area, 13:30
After 1 – 1.5 hours of scenic driving from Ankara, we reach Beypazari. The Beypazari tour stars with Hidirliktepe, a panoramic hill overlooking Beypazari, a good photo opportunity.
We'll then stop at a local Beypazari restaurant, to have our lunch. Local Beypazari cuisine will be served, consisting of tarhana soup, yaprak sarma, meat stew, and dessert (baklava or hösmerim, a local Beypazari dessert).
Following lunch the tour will continue with with Aladdin Street, a unique place where local Beypazari style houses can be seen.
Next in the program will be the Living Museum. The museum is the former home of a wealthy merchant and his wife, who was Beypazari's first female teacher. In addition to the traditional furnishings of the house, the museum features local handcrafts such as needlepoint, embroidery, jewellery, copperware and woodcarving.
Our next stop will be the Aladdin Mosque, dating back to the Seljuk period. (Female visitors attending this tour are kindly asked to bring head scarves while visiting the mosque, due to the Islamic traditions).
After visiting the Aladdin Street area, we then visit the Silversmith's Market to see some examples of locally made silver handicrafts, especially ‘Telkari'. Telkari is made by knitting very thin gold and silver wires into necklaces, bracelets and belts. There will be some time available for shopping.
We'll return back to Ankara at 18:00 using the same route, and guests will be dropped off at their desired location at Bilkent.

DAILY TOURS - ANKARA

29 JUNE 2010

You will be picked up from Bilkent Congress Center for the city tour. After a short orientation, we will visit the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who is the great founder of the Turkish Republic. In this spectacular complex, we are going to walk on the Lionized Road which opens in to the Monumental Courtyard, which is crowned by the Hellenistic temple shaped mausoleum. Also you will have the chance to see the impressive changing of the guard. We will then head to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations which is one of the best pre-historic museums in the world. It received the Museum of Europe award in 1999. You will see the splendors collection of Asia Minor through out the millennia, such as the monumental tomb of King Midas with Golden Touch.

Finally, we will proceed to the 12th century Aladdin Mosque, which still boasts fine Seljuk woodwork, although it was extensively rebuilt by the Ottomans. Many interesting traditional Turkish houses have been restored in the area, and some have found a new life as art galleries or attractive restaurants serving local dishes. Close to the gate, Hisar Kapisi, we will see the beautifully restored bedesten (covered bazaar). A walk down from the hill near the Citadel Gate will take us to many interesting stalls and vendors selling spices, dried fruits, nuts and all manner of produce. In the late afternoon we will drive you back to your hotel and this is the end of our services for the day.
